Job Summary:

A registered professional nurse responsible for providing quality diabetes education. In collaboration with clinical management and interdisciplinary staff of the Diabetes Center, participates in the development and promotion of programs to prevent or control diabetes and its related co-morbidities. The Diabetes Educator evaluates effectiveness of center programs by means of analysis of outcome studies of center programs and activities as directed.

Responsibilities / Skills:

·      Demonstrated professional and clinical competency in nursing and in diabetes education. Beginning knowledge of teaching, counseling and evaluation principles and techniques.

·      Basic leadership abilities, high degree of self-confidence; self-motivated; effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.

·      Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work independently and as a team member.

·      Employ discretion and confidentiality in sensitive areas.

·      Read, interpret and follow instructions, beginning computer, research and data management skills.

·      Working knowledge of all aspects of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Explorer and Outlook.

·      Basic understanding of regulatory body standards, State Board of Nursing and Continuing Education Board requirements.

·      Willingness to learn to read, write, and communicate in Spanish, if necessary, if not bilingual.

Requirements:

·      Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) or successful completion of a Registered Dietician Program required - Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree is preferred.

·      Active Registered Nurse license within the state of practice or Registered Dietician license required.

·      BLS certification issued through American Heart Association required.

·      Current certification in diabetes education by the NCBDE or five years clinical experience in diabetes with consistent progress towards certification is strongly preferred.

·      Minimum of five (5) years clinical experience including working as an RN in an acute care setting and as a diabetes patient educator.

·      Valid Driver's License required. Will be required to drive and meet with providers and community members.

·      Requires the ability to speak, listen, develop, and communicate written materials.
