Job Description:


We are looking for an RN-PICU nurse to provide care for children and adolescents with a wide range of ailments. These include everything, from common childhood diseases to life-threatening illnesses. Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) patients are typically unstable, critically ill, medically complex, or post-surgical patients, and will require constant interventions and monitoring. 


It is your job as an RN-PICU to monitor, assess, and treat patients under 18 years old who are presenting acute, serious ailments, and alert clinicians to complications that need to be addressed right away. As a pediatric ICU nurse, you will also coordinate with families, physicians, and other healthcare experts to determine the best course of patient care and recovery.


Furthermore, being a childcare specialist, you are expected to provide emotional support to parents and families while keeping the patient calm. Likewise, an RN-PICU nurse answers questions and educate family members about how they can manage the child's health condition. 


Responsibilities:


  • Provide age and culturally appropriate care to the patient.
  • Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans. 
  • Monitors the vital signs of the patient, such as blood pressure, breathing, heart rate, and initiates corrective action whenever the patient displays adverse symptomatology.
  • Follows continuous cardiac and respiratory monitor readings and reports any observed changes.
  • Monitor and adjust specialized equipment used on patients
  • Prepare, administer, and record prescribed medications. 
  • Report adverse reactions to medications or treatments  
  • Assist treating physician during examination, treatment, and procedures, which can include life-saving situations. 
  • Analyze Lab results.
  • Provide education, information, and emotional support to the patient’s family.
  • Record all care information accurately, completely, and promptly, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.
  • Perform other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting.

Requirements:


  • Minimum of 1 year of recent experience as an RN in a clinical setting.
  • Active RN license within the State of practice.
  • Current certifications (variable depending on the facility).
  • Possess excellent communication skills to effectively relay messages to clinicians and parents.
  • Must have sympathy, kindness, patience, and emotional stability to handle intense realities like death. 
  • Technical skills to operate the latest medical equipment accurately.
  • Fast critical thinking skills for making good, split-second care decisions.
