Job Description:

We are looking for a skilled Speech Language Pathologist to provide quality care for our patients. The speech pathologist will perform screenings, assess patient condition, and design therapy and treatment plans to help the patient develop necessary speech skills.

The job responsibilities of a speech therapist in home health may include:

1. Assessing patients with speech, language, voice, or swallowing disorders and developing individualized treatment plans.
2. Conducting therapy sessions to help patients improve their communication skills, including articulation, fluency, voice, and language.
3. Providing education and training to patients and their caregivers on communication and swallowing strategies and techniques.
4. Collaborating with other healthcare professionals, such as physicians, nurses, and occupational therapists, to ensure the patient's overall care needs are met.
5. Documenting patient progress and communicating with the patient's healthcare team regarding any changes in the patient's condition.
6. Performing videofluoroscopic swallow studies (VFSS) to assess the patient's swallowing function.
7. Recommending and fitting assistive devices, such as augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices, to facilitate communication.
8. Providing dysphagia therapy to help patients improve their swallowing function and safety.

Requirements:

1. Education: A minimum of a master's degree in speech-language pathology (SLP) is required. The educational program must be accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA).
2. License and Certification: A valid state license to practice speech-language pathology is required. SLPs must also be certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Continuing education is also required to maintain certification.
3. Work Experience: Many employers prefer candidates with experience working in home health or a similar setting. Experience in geriatrics, neurology, or pediatrics is also highly valued.
4. Communication Skills: SLPs must have excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals. They should be able to listen actively and communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
5. Critical Thinking Skills: SLPs must be able to analyze patient data and develop individualized treatment plans. They should be able to think creatively and develop solutions to complex problems.
6. Physical Requirements: SLPs must be able to lift and transfer patients, perform manual dexterity tasks, and stand or sit for long periods.
7. Transportation: SLPs must have a reliable means of transportation to travel to and from patient homes.
8. Other Requirements: Many employers require SLPs to have liability insurance and undergo a criminal background check.
