Job Description:

A Clinical Laboratory Scientist, also known as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, is a highly skilled healthcare professional who performs and analyzes laboratory tests to diagnose, treat, and prevent diseases.


The primary responsibilities of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist include:

  1. Performing laboratory tests: A Clinical Laboratory Scientist conducts a wide range of laboratory tests, including blood tests, urine tests, and other bodily fluid tests, to diagnose, monitor, and treat diseases.
  2. Analyzing test results: The Clinical Laboratory Scientist analyzes and interprets laboratory test results, and reports them to physicians and other healthcare professionals.
  3. Maintaining laboratory equipment: The Clinical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition, and conducting routine quality control checks.
  4. Following safety protocols: The Clinical Laboratory Scientist follows strict safety protocols to ensure the safety of themselves, other laboratory staff, and patients.
  5. Documenting results: The Clinical Laboratory Scientist maintains accurate records of test results, ensuring that all documentation is complete and up-to-date.
  6. Participating in research: The Clinical Laboratory Scientist may be involved in laboratory research studies to develop new laboratory tests and improve existing ones.
  7. Collaborating with healthcare professionals: The Clinical Laboratory Scientist works closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that laboratory tests are ordered correctly, and results are properly interpreted and acted upon.

Requirements:

  1. Education: A bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science or a related field from an accredited institution is required.
  2. Certification: CLSs must be certified by a recognized agency, such as the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA), or the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
  3. Licensing: active CLS License in the state of California.
  4. One year of CLS experience preferred.
  5. Experience as a Generalist preferred.
