Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated individual to fill the role of Department Manager in our Ambulatory Surgery Department. As the Department Manager, you will oversee the delivery of high-quality, accessible, and cost-effective care to our patients. Your responsibilities will include ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, establishing clinical standards of care, managing resources and budgets, and fostering the professional development of staff.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage the operations of 24-hour departments across multiple locations, ensuring compliance with nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.
  • Establish and maintain patient care and service standards that meet the expectations of our members and internal clients.
  • Design and evaluate processes to enhance systems and improve patient care outcomes throughout the continuum of care.
  • Develop and monitor budgets to optimize the utilization of resources, identify cost-saving opportunities, and enhance the quality of care and services.
  • Determine the appropriate staffing levels for the department and implement effective recruitment, training, and competency maintenance processes. Support ongoing staff development.
  • Address human resource, employee, department safety, and risk management issues effectively.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor departmental policies and procedures aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the establishment of care standards, fiscal management, and quality improvement activities.
  • Conduct regular compensation reviews and may update job descriptions or change the compensation structure as needed.


Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of four (4) years of clinical nursing experience in the relevant area of specialization, including four (4) years of management, supervisory, or leadership experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or a Master's Degree in Nursing earned through a direct entry MSN program.
  • Registered Nurse License (California) required at the time of hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Knowledge of Nurse Practice Act, The Joint Commission, and other applicable regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • ACLS or PALS certification may be required for specific department positions.
  • National Certification preferred within one (1) year of hire.
  • Ability to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of management experience.
  • One (1) year of Magnet/shared governance experience.
  • One (1) year of management experience in a bargaining environment.
  • Master's degree preferred.
