Job Description:


The Oncology RN oversees and directs the care of the patient with hematologic/oncologic diagnosis. The Oncology RN is responsible for the care of medical and surgical patients. Serves as primary nurse leading the collaboration of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care. Oversees and directs the care of assistive personnel, maintaining final accountability for the care given to assigned patients. Within the first year the RN will have gained basic clinical knowledge and skills of caring for hematology/oncology patients.



Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the safe delivery and documentation of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Performs responsibilities in five areas of nursing practice utilizing critical thinking, management, problem solving and differentiation of urgency in the role of: clinician, teacher, researcher, leadership and professional development.
  • Responsible for directing and coordinating nursing care for patients based on established clinical nursing practice standards subscribed to by American Nursing Association and in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act and other regulatory standards. 
  • Work with children and ask questions about their health for diagnosis and documenting patients' symptoms and medical history for the doctor.
  • Uses knowledge of patient's age and cultural diversity into the provision of patient care.
  • Identify changes in children's symptoms and intervening in emergencies.
  • Participate in pain management for children.
  • Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.
  • Monitor temperature, pulse, breathing, and blood pressure and keeping accurate records.
  • Evaluate children for signs and symptoms of abuse.
  • Contributes to the provision of quality nursing care through excellence in customer service and performance improvement techniques that demonstrate positive outcomes in patient care.

Requirements:

    Current licensure in the State of Colorado as a Registered Nurse, or current active multistate Registered Nurse license

·       BLS – Healthcare provider

·       ONS chemotherapy provider card required within the first 9 months of hire

·       ACLS and OCN preferred

·       Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

·       BSN preferred

·       One year experience in acute care preferred
