Job Description:

As a Labor & Delivery Unit Supervisor, you will assume a pivotal role in supporting the Manager in providing effective leadership and guidance to our Labor & Delivery units. Your primary responsibility will be to cultivate an environment that encourages teamwork and a collaborative approach to patient care in the unique setting of labor and delivery. Here's a glimpse of what you'll be involved in:


Leadership and Management:

  • Collaborate with the Manager to oversee all aspects of our care delivery system, actively working to enhance service quality.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the annual operational budget, with monthly performance monitoring.
  • Provide daily operational leadership for the unit, ensuring the continuous provision of exceptional care to expectant mothers and their newborns.


Clinical Excellence:

  • Accountable alongside the Manager for ensuring 24/7 patient care availability and satisfaction through regular rounds on expecting mothers.
  • Take charge of clinical operations, coordinate daily patient care activities, and collaborate closely with healthcare team members to ensure safe and compassionate care during labor and delivery.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of quality improvement initiatives tailored to the unique needs of the Labor & Delivery unit.


Quality Patient Care:

  • Develop and execute unit-specific goals to enhance the delivery of high-quality care for expectant mothers and their newborns.
  • Foster strong relationships with the obstetric team, nursing staff, and peers, facilitating effective communication.
  • Ensure that patient care adheres to professional, regulatory, and hospital standards.
  • Use sound judgment and appropriate interventions to address patient and family satisfaction concerns identified during rounding in the sensitive and emotional labor and delivery setting.


Education and Development:

  • Assist with new hires and orientation processes, collaborating with unit preceptors to ensure new staff are well-prepared for the unique demands of Labor & Delivery.
  • Maintain clinical competence by actively participating in patient care to preserve clinical skills.
  • Serve as a role model for staff by upholding departmental standards and participating in designated meetings.
  • Apply critical thinking skills to effectively resolve issues that can arise in the high-stress environment of Labor & Delivery.


When providing direct patient care as an RN:

  • Fulfill the responsibilities outlined in the RN position description.
  • Demonstrate nursing proficiency in labor and delivery care, providing support to expectant mothers throughout the labor process.
  • Take ownership of planning, implementing, or modifying programs/classes as required to support maternal health and newborn care.
  • Ensure the competencies of Family Educators through the evaluation process and educational opportunities.


Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited school.
  • State Registered Nurse License (required upon hire).
  • National Provider BLS - American Heart Association (required upon hire).
  • 2 years of recent experience in Labor & Delivery, demonstrating clinical knowledge and leadership qualities.


Preferred:

  • Experience as a Charge Nurse or in a leadership role within a Labor & Delivery unit.
