Clinical Risk Manager / Quality – Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description:

The clinical risk manager/quality RN is responsible for the facility's risk management activities, which includes, but may not be limited to, managing and analyzing patient safety events and visitor events, resolving complaints and grievances, and promoting patient safety within the facility through Patient Safety Committee, Safety Huddle participation, nursing practice consortiums, and communication with administrative leaders and front-line staff.

As a patient safety professional, this position will exercise responsibility and accountability for coordinating, collecting, disseminating, and intervening in a manner that anticipates & prevents safety concerns through proactive risk assessment, as well as responding after the fact to evaluate actual safety events. This role will lead patient safety investigations within a multidisciplinary team to determine process improvements that will improve patient safety and eliminate preventable patient harm.



Responsibilities:

  • Manage & Maintain Environment of Care and Life Safety compliance.
  • Identify clinical patient safety risks based on regulatory interpretation, clinic audits, proactive risk assessment, and other methods, and address risks to minimize patient harm.
  • Work collaboratively with operations leaders to provide clinical safety education, workflow analysis, and process improvement to eliminate preventable harm.
  • Codify process improvements through collaborative work on policy creation.
  • Oversight of safety committee scheduling, agenda determination and maintaining documentation of minutes, safety findings, and improvements.
  • Develops and implements education programs and materials to train staff to detect, mitigate, and avoid preventable clinical harm.
  • Provides technical guidance to core leaders and other appropriate parties regarding clinical patient safety process.
  • Provide policy and procedure interpretation and education as it applies to clinical patient safety.
  • Conduct research and applicable regulations/standards concerning patient safety and integrate findings into policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance.

Requirements:

  • Active RN license within the State of practice.
  • Three years clinical experience required 
  • Two years healthcare quality/risk management or coordinator level experience within the last 3yrs
  • Associates degree in Nursing required
  • Verbal, interpersonal, and quantitative skills required.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and communication abilities as well as excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities required.
  • Understanding of patient safety principles, identification of healthcare risk and risk mitigation strategies and processes. 
  • Ability to navigate electronic medical records. 
  • Complies with legal, hospital and departmental policies, procedures and position requirements.
  • Ability to analyze, understand and display data in a meaningful way, and to use it for improvement.
  • Maintaining a broad knowledge of all applicable laws, legislation, and regulatory standards, including but not limited to: EMTALA, HIPAA, CMS Conditions of Participation and The Joint Commission standards.
