Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated Pharmacist to join our innovative, independent pharmacy in Sacramento. This position plays a key role in providing top-tier service by dispensing medications prescribed by providers, advising on drug selection, dosage, and interactions, and delivering patient services such as point-of-care testing, immunizations, and pharmacist-prescribed therapies.

Key Responsibilities:

·      Assists the Pharmacist-In-Charge (PIC)

·      Reviews prescriptions to ensure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability. Provides information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage.

·      Assesses the identity, strength, or purity of medications. Compounds and dispense medications prescribed by providers by calculating, weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients, or overseeing these activities.

·      Maintains records such as pharmacy files, patient profiles, charge system files, inventories, and controlled substance records.

·      Plans, implements, and maintains procedures for mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals according to policy and legal requirements to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal.

·      Provides specialized services to help patients manage conditions such as diabetes, asthma, smoking cessation, high blood pressure, HIV and STI treatment and prevention, travel health.

·      Offers health promotion and prevention activities by, for example, training people to use devices such as blood pressure and diabetes monitors.

·      Advises customers on the selection of medication brands, medical equipment, and health care supplies.

·      Collaborates with other health care professionals to plan, monitor, review, and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of drugs and drug regimens, providing advice on drug applications and characteristics.

·      Analyzes prescribing trends to monitor patient compliance and to prevent excessive usage or harmful interactions.

·      Orders and purchases pharmaceutical supplies, medical supplies, and drugs, maintaining stock and storing and handling it properly.

·      Performs point of care testing, interprets results, and prescribes medications on patients for all permissible disease testing as allowed by California law.

·      Performs immunizations and other therapeutic injections.

·      Identifies strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats for the organization.

·      Other related duties as assigned by senior leadership and company owners



Ideal Candidate:

Strong communication skills and teamwork are essential, as is the ability to utilize both human and technological resources to meet company objectives.


Work Hours:

Store hours are Monday through Friday, 9 am - 6 pm, and Saturday, 9 am - 1 pm (closed on Sundays). Work schedules will vary between part-time and full-time positions and may include shifts outside of regular business hours for administrative tasks.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

·      Direct daily pharmacy operations

·      Ensures compliance with all regulatory aspects of the pharmacy

·      Performing administrative duties

·      Assists in managing inventory and purchasing

·      Precepts pharmacy interns

·      Reports to Pharmacy Manager/PIC and pharmacy owners



Required Skills/Abilities:

·      Strong patient service skills.

·      Excellent knowledge of chemistry and specific drug interactions.

·      Strong knowledge of medical and biological terminology.

·      Excellent attention to detail and ability to balance competing priorities.



Education and Experience:

·      Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree

·      California Pharmacist License

·      CPR Certification

·      Immunization Certificate



Physical Requirements:

·      Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

·      Prolonged periods of standing and bending.

·      Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
