The Clinical Laboratory Section Assistant Supervisor plays a pivotal role in ensuring our laboratory runs smoothly and efficiently. You'll be responsible for overseeing daily operations, maintaining the highest standards of quality control, and supporting your team in delivering exceptional patient care.

In a Nutshell

• Oversee all lab activities to ensure top-notch testing and regulatory compliance
• Step up as acting Section Supervisor in their absence
• Lead by example, coaching and mentoring your team members
• Participate in committees, projects, and quality improvement initiatives
• Maintain a safe and productive work environment

Key Responsibilities

• Uphold hospital and regulatory standards for quality patient care
• Ensure staff adherence to hospital policies and procedures
• Oversee employee training, competency, and education
• Foster a positive and professional work environment
• Direct and supervise laboratory testing procedures
• Perform bench testing and assist colleagues when needed
• Train staff on specialized tests and quality control protocols
• Monitor turnaround times for tests
• Actively participate in developing and implementing efficient lab software
• Troubleshoot instrument malfunctions and collaborate with vendors
• Maintain a well-stocked lab with necessary supplies
• Interview, hire, and evaluate staff performance
• Attend educational programs to stay current in the field
• Communicate effectively with colleagues and other departments

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Clinical Technology or a related science
• Four years of relevant hospital laboratory experience (preferred)
• ASCP or NCA certification (preferred)
• Current NYS License or eligibility for licensure
