Position Summary
The Supervisor, Chemistry/Immunology is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the operations of the Chemistry and Immunology laboratories. This includes ensuring quality testing, regulatory compliance, and efficient workflow. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in clinical laboratory science and possess excellent leadership and problem-solving skills.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Leadership and Management:
- Oversee and manage laboratory staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
- Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, collaboration, and professional development.
- Develop and implement departmental goals, objectives, and policies.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards, including CLIA, CAP, and NYSDOH.
- Technical Expertise:
- Possess in-depth knowledge of clinical chemistry and immunology principles, methodologies, and instrumentation.
- Troubleshoot instrument malfunctions and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor and optimize test performance, turnaround time, and quality control.
- Stay current with advancements in laboratory technology and industry best practices.
- Quality Assurance and Improvement:
- Implement and maintain a robust quality assurance program to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
- Analyze quality control data and identify trends or issues requiring corrective action.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of new laboratory services.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements, including CLIA, CAP, and NYSDOH.
- Stay informed of regulatory changes and implement necessary updates.
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or related field.
- Master's degree in Clinical Chemistry preferred.
- ASCP or NCA certification required.
- Current NYS License or eligibility required.
- Minimum of six years of relevant experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
