Assistant Nurse Manager - Emergency Department
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Registered Nurse to join our Emergency Department team as an Assistant Nurse Manager. This full-time, evening position (4 days/week, 10-hour shifts) offers a competitive salary range of $128,602 - $168,922.
About the Role:
Working collaboratively with the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible for the daily operations of the Emergency Department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care that meets hospital and regulatory standards. This includes:
- Leadership & Mentorship: Serving as a role model, coach, mentor, and resource for staff.
- Operational Management: Developing and managing departmental goals, budgets (including FTE component), and staffing schedules. Maintaining 24-hour responsibility for nursing care provided.
- Collaboration & Communication: Working closely with physicians and the healthcare team to optimize patient care. Facilitating effective communication within the department and across the hospital.
- Quality Improvement: Participating in performance improvement initiatives, developing evidence-based standards of care, and ensuring a safe patient and employee environment.
- Compliance & Education: Ensuring staff compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and competency standards.
- Patient Experience: Championing service excellence and fostering a positive patient care environment.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement departmental goals aligned with hospital strategic plans.
- Manage the recruitment, hiring, evaluation, and development of staff.
- Create and manage departmental budgets (operating and capital).
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and accreditation standards.
- Oversee staff orientation, training, and competency assessments.
- Provide hospital supervision as needed.
- Lead monthly staff meetings and communicate effectively with the team.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives and develop evidence-based standards of care.
- Foster a culture of shared governance and support Magnet initiatives.
- Provide direct patient care as needed.
Qualifications:
- Current NY State RN License.
- BSN required
- BLS certification (American Heart Association).
- ACLS certification (American Heart Association) preferred, required for certain roles within the department.
- Specialty certification or CNML (Certified Nurse Manager & Leader) preferred, required within 3 years of hire.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant acute care experience.
- Previous management/leadership experience preferred.
