Registered Nurse (RN) Unit Leader - Med Surg
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to join our team as a Unit Leader. This role is crucial in supporting bedside nurses, ensuring safe patient care, and achieving organizational goals.
Reports to: Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager
Salary Range: $122,000 to $157,000
About the Role:
The Unit Leader collaborates with the Nurse Manager and Assistant Nurse Manager to foster a positive and efficient unit environment. This involves acting as a role model, mentor, and resource for staff, while also ensuring adherence to hospital standards and regulatory requirements. The Unit Leader facilitates communication between management, staff, physicians, patients, families, and other departments. A commitment to patient safety, satisfaction, and continuous improvement is essential.
Responsibilities:
- Champion quality and safe patient care, adhering to established standards and best practices.
- Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating effective coaching, mentoring, problem-solving, and resourcefulness.
- Lead, develop, implement, and monitor unit-based quality and performance improvement initiatives.
- Maintain scheduling flexibility to provide clinical leadership and meet unit needs.
- Adhere to unit budget guidelines and manage nursing resources accordingly.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure optimal, age-appropriate patient care.
- Implement evidence-based nursing practices and contribute to the development of nursing standards and protocols.
- Participate in direct patient care and accept patient assignments as needed.
- Ensure staff participation in continuing education, shared governance, competency maintenance, and policy adherence.
- Participate in assigned task forces, committees, and projects.
- Maintain a safe patient care and work environment in compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Foster interdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork.
- Champion patient satisfaction through patient rounding and monitoring outcomes, striving to exceed national benchmarks. Develop and implement action plans to address any deficiencies.
- Act as a positive change agent and support organizational initiatives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Current NY State RN License.
- BSN (or MSN) required.
- One year of RN experience in the area of specialty or practice preferred.
- BCLS certification required.
- ACLS certification required (except for NICU & Operating Room RNs). New hires must obtain certification within specified timeframes
- PALS certification required for specific units. New hires must obtain certification within specified timeframes.
- NRP certification required for specific units. New hires must obtain certification within specified timeframes.
- Previous management/leadership experience preferred.
- Two years of previous clinical experience in the area of unit concentration preferred.
