Physician Group Director


LOCATION: Missoula, MT

JOB TYPE: Full-Time Permanent


The Physician Group Director (PGD) will report to the CEO, and is responsible for overseeing administration, operations, and service lines. This includes strategic planning, execution, and performance management to ensure growth, high-quality care, excellent patient experiences, and strong financial and operational outcomes. This role focuses on service line development, provider and staff engagement, and performance optimization, ensuring alignment with the mission and core values.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the strategic direction, planning, execution, and optimization of the Company practices, focusing on growth, development, and service line optimization within and Company. This role is responsible for driving transformation to achieve key performance goals, aligning operations with internal and national benchmarks. Success in this position requires effectively translating strategy into actionable plans that deliver measurable results.
  • In collaboration with dyad partners, administrative leaders, and practice managers, the PGD ensures the engagement and integration of physicians, APPs, direct reports, and clinic support staff. This role is responsible for fostering high-performing, engaged teams while cultivating a culture that aligns with the Company’s mission and core values.
  • Oversees the hiring, engagement, compensation, quality, patient experience, access, and performance expectations for physicians and APPs. Ensure alignment with service line strategies, performance benchmarks, and initiatives while driving increased service utilization with the Company and its partners. Manages all aspects of physician, APP, and direct report separations, both voluntary and involuntary.
  • Leads the planning and execution of strategies to optimize and transform clinical and business operations. Drive efficiency, effectiveness, cost containment, and the delivery of high-quality patient care while ensuring sustainable growth and performance improvement.
  • Develops and implements business plans and pro-formas to expand and enhance current and new services. Leads the planning, development, and execution of operating and capital budgets, financial forecasting, and overall financial performance. Ensure fiscal responsibility across, its service lines, and individual practices to drive sustainable growth and operational success.
  • Provides mentorship, training, education, and support to foster the professional growth and development of all direct reports. Champions efforts to standardize job titles, role competencies, training, and development programs to ensure consistency and excellence across the organization.
  • Plays a key role in the design, planning, and management of new offices and facilities in collaboration with PGD and Company leadership. Partners with physician group leaders and Company’s Senior Leadership Team to drive organizational and service line goals, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and operational excellence.
  • Actively participates in PGD and Company councils and committees as a leader, sponsor, or member. Represents the organization in interactions with community stakeholders, affiliated entities, physician practices, regulatory agencies, insurance carriers, and other professional groups to strengthen partnerships and advance organizational objectives.


Job Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in health or business administration preferred.
  • In lieu of a master’s degree, a bachelor’s degree with 10 years of progressive practice management experience to include: financial, human resources and operational management, and a sound understanding of ambulatory care.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive physician practice management or related health care management.
  • Ability to write a business plan, perform a SWOT analysis, and understand the financial statements and develop proforma’s.
  • Certifications valued: CPPS, CMPE, nice to have.
  • Strong understanding and experience working in a matrix organization and leading by influence, nice to have.
