Job Title: Medical Physicist
Location: Abilene, TX
Job Summary:
The Medical Physicist is responsible for ensuring the safe and effective delivery of radiation in medical procedures, including diagnostic imaging, radiation therapy, and nuclear medicine. This role involves quality assurance, calibration of equipment, treatment planning support, radiation safety oversight, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform regular quality assurance testing and calibration of medical imaging and radiation therapy equipment.
- Collaborate with radiation oncologists, radiologists, dosimetrists, and technologists in treatment planning and implementation.
- Ensure radiation safety protocols are followed to protect patients, staff, and the public.
- Develop and maintain documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.
- Provide technical support and training to clinical staff on equipment use and radiation protection.
- Participate in clinical research and development of new techniques and technologies.
- Assist in commissioning new equipment and technologies.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations regarding radiation use.
Qualifications:
- Master’s or Doctorate degree in Medical Physics or related field.
- Certification or board eligibility by the American Board of Radiology (ABR), Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM), or equivalent.
- Experience in clinical medical physics preferred (specialization in diagnostic, therapeutic, or nuclear medicine physics as applicable).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations (e.g., NRC, FDA, ACR, CMS).
Working Conditions:
- Work is primarily in clinical settings such as hospitals or cancer treatment centers.
- May require evening or weekend hours for equipment testing or emergency support.
- Exposure to ionizing radiation, mitigated by strict adherence to safety protocols.
