Registered Nurse (RN) – Manager, Med Surg

JOB TYPE: Full-Time Permanent
Position Overview:
The Med-Surg Nurse Manager is responsible for the daily operations and leadership of a 42-bed adult inpatient medical-surgical unit. This role provides clinical and administrative leadership, supports high-quality patient care, and ensures efficient use of resources in alignment with organizational goals. The manager plays a critical role in staff development, performance improvement, and fostering an engaged team culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct leadership to unit staff including RNs, LPNs, PCTs, and Clinical Nurse Coordinators.
- Assess and enhance the quality of care, staff engagement, and patient outcomes.
- Support effective onboarding, clinical competency, and professional growth of staff.
- Partner with directors and other department leaders to drive unit goals and hospital initiatives.
- Demonstrate strong clinical acumen and leadership in real-time decision-making.
- Lead and participate in unit-based quality improvement projects.
- Promote patient-centered care and advocate for patient and family needs.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and timely documentation of incidents and outcomes.
- Monitor patient status changes and coordinate appropriate clinical response.
- Participate in budget planning, resource allocation, and cost-containment efforts.
- Serve as a mentor to team members and foster a culture of accountability and excellence.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred.
- Licensure: Current RN license (or Advanced Practice Nurse) in good standing.
- Certifications: BLS certification required (or obtained within 30 days of hire).
- Experience:
- At least 2–3 years of recent acute care leadership experience (Manager or Supervisor level) required.
- Strong preference for candidates with experience in Med-Surg, PCU, or ICU settings.
- Travel or interim charge nurse roles are not considered equivalent leadership experience.
