RN Perinatal Educator / Safety Specialist – Women’s Services
Location: Garden City, KS
Shift: Days (with occasional evenings and/or weekends as needed)
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Department Manager, the Perinatal Safety Specialist is responsible for implementing, promoting, supporting, and overseeing perinatal patient safety and quality of care initiatives. This specialized nursing role blends clinical expertise with a strong focus on patient safety to ensure high-quality care for pregnant women and their families. The role requires adherence to departmental, institutional, regional, and federal clinical and ethical standards. The Perinatal Safety Specialist actively participates in quality improvement initiatives that enhance perinatal care processes and outcomes, fostering a culture of safety throughout the healthcare facility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure all care providers in Maternal Child Health adhere to national clinical standards and best practices in safety.
- Serve as a patient safety advocate and clinical role model in perinatal nursing and obstetrics.
- Implement and support patient safety and quality of care initiatives.
- Monitor and evaluate clinical outcomes for continuous improvement.
- Facilitate effective interdisciplinary communication, collaboration, and education.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Master’s degree or higher preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in Women’s Services.
- At least 1 year of project experience in Perinatal Safety (2+ years preferred).
- Experience in quality improvement, process improvement techniques, and program/project management required.
- Licensure & Certifications:
- Current RN license in applicable state.
- Certification in one of the following (must be obtained within 6 months if not already held):
- CCRN-NEO, C-EFM, RN-BC MCN, RN-BC-PERI, RNC (OB, GYN, Neonatal, LRN, MNN, NIC, OB), C-EFM, or C-ONQS.
- BLS required.
- NRP required within 90 days of hire.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Proficiency in Google Workspace or Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong knowledge and experience in patient safety principles and practices.
- Proven ability to lead large, complex projects and drive results.
- Exceptional facilitation skills, with experience guiding cross-functional and geographically dispersed teams.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to distill and summarize complex information clearly and succinctly.
- Demonstrated leadership in program evaluation, strategic planning, and implementation.
- Excellent interpersonal communication, negotiation, and consensus-building skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage ambiguity effectively.
