Surgery Center Administrator, RN

Position Summary
A high-performing Ambulatory Surgery Center is seeking a dynamic and experienced Administrator to oversee daily operations, clinical services, personnel management, and strategic planning. The facility features four operating rooms and offers a comprehensive range of surgical specialties, including Dental, ENT, General Surgery, gynecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Pain Management, Plastics, Podiatry, and Urology.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in ASC leadership or hospital-based surgical services, with direct experience in ASCs.
Core Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership
- Direct and coordinate all daily activities of the surgical center.
- Serve as a liaison between the governing board, medical staff, and departments.
- Provide regular updates and strategic insights to the governing board.
- Designate leadership coverage during absences.
- Plan for current and future services to ensure alignment with clinical goals and regulatory standards.
- Lead monthly operations reviews and executive calls.
Business Operations
- Implement and maintain performance frameworks, such as quality and efficiency programs.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory agencies, and accrediting bodies.
- Manage budgets, staffing plans, capital expenditures, and supply purchasing within financial targets.
- Negotiate and manage contracts with vendors, service providers, and physicians.
- Establish and update procedure pricing based on cost analysis and market standards.
- Monitor financial metrics, address variances, and mitigate cash flow issues.
- Develop and enforce departmental policies and procedures.
Personnel Management
- Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate goals and performance expectations.
- Oversee recruitment, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
- Review and approve new roles and hires.
- Analyze staff productivity and adjust the workforce based on surgical volume.
- Promote ongoing education, orientation, and professional development.
- Maintain personnel records and compliance with HR policies.
Clinical Oversight
- Ensure compliance with clinical regulations and accreditation standards.
- Collaborate with medical leadership on service development and quality improvement.
- Supervise departments such as nursing, supply chain, medical records, and housekeeping.
- Oversee contracted services, including lab, radiology, pharmacy, laundry, and biomedical support.
- Maintain operational readiness of surgical and clinical equipment.
- Lead sales and marketing initiatives, identifying growth opportunities.
Quality Improvement
- Develop and lead a comprehensive quality improvement and infection control program.
- Collaborate with the medical staff to monitor and improve care outcomes.
- Utilize data-driven indicators to assess and enhance facility performance.
- Serve on the Quality Improvement Committee and ensure that corrective action is taken as needed.
Medical Staff Relations
- Manage credentialing and re-credentialing of providers.
- Assist in maintaining and updating medical staff bylaws and policies.
- Foster positive working relationships between providers and staff.
- Ensure services are aligned with physician needs and patient demand.
Administrative Representation
- Represent the center at corporate, regional, and professional association meetings.
- Uphold the facility’s mission, vision, and business philosophy.
- Stay informed of changes in healthcare regulations, reimbursement, and best practices.
Professionalism & Development
- Attend mandatory training, in-services, and professional development sessions.
- Maintain compliance with standards of privacy, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
- Demonstrate effective, courteous communication with all stakeholders.
Qualifications
- 2 to 5 years of proven experience in leadership/management of an Ambulatory Surgery Center or hospital surgical services. Required
- Minimum education required: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- Strong knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards for outpatient surgery.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage financial performance, staff development, and strategic planning.
- Familiarity with surgical services across multiple specialties is preferred.
