Director of Nursing – Labor & Delivery
Location: San Antonio, TX
Full-Time – Days (No Weekends)
We’re seeking a dynamic and compassionate Director of Nursing to lead a high-performing L&D unit in a fast-paced acute care setting. This is a rare opportunity to shape care for mothers and newborns while mentoring the next generation of nurse leaders.
About the Role
As the Director of Nursing for Labor & Delivery, you will lead a team of 140+ staff and oversee a 40–50 bed unit known for excellence in maternal and neonatal outcomes. You’ll be responsible for clinical operations, patient care delivery, team performance, and strategic initiatives — all while fostering a positive, accountable, and patient-focused culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 24/7 leadership for Labor & Delivery operations
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with clinical staff, physicians, and executive leadership
- Mentor and develop nurse leaders and frontline staff
- Drive performance metrics including patient satisfaction, quality of care, and employee engagement
- Plan and execute process improvement initiatives and evaluate outcomes
Qualifications
- RN license (current and unencumbered)
- BSN required; Master’s degree preferred
- 5+ years of L&D experience in an acute care hospital
- Minimum 2 years in an L&D leadership role
- Proven success in employee engagement, patient satisfaction, and operational outcomes
- Experience working in a performance-driven, patient-centered culture (e.g., Studer model)
