Position Title: Operating Room RN, Leader, Director of Surgical Services ( OR Manager Exp. Welcome to Apply)
Location: Petersburg, VA ( Offering Relocation + sign on bonus)
Schedule: Full-time • No Weekends
We are seeking an experienced Director of Surgical Services to lead perioperative services in a 140+ bed acute care facility with more than a century of healthcare excellence. This is an exciting opportunity to oversee the growth of surgical programs, drive operational excellence, and support a culture of safe, high-quality patient care.
Role Overview
The Director of Surgical Services has 24/7 responsibility for perioperative operations, including the Operating Room, PACU, Pre/Post, Endoscopy, and Sterile Processing. This leader will work collaboratively with physicians, anesthesia, nursing staff, and hospital leadership to ensure high standards of patient safety, service, and clinical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of surgical services.
- Implement evidence-based practices that advance patient safety and the customer experience.
- Mentor, coach, and develop leaders and staff across perioperative services.
- Oversee quality improvement programs, regulatory compliance, and patient safety initiatives.
- Drive service growth strategies including robotics (DaVinci, Mako) and expanded surgical specialties.
- Manage financial performance, staffing, capital equipment planning, and resource utilization.
- Build strong physician and anesthesia partnerships to position the hospital as the OR of choice in the community.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s preferred.
- Current RN license in the state of Virginia (or compact license).
- 3+ years of progressive surgical services leadership experience (Manager or Director level).
- CNOR and/or CSSM certification preferred.
Department Snapshot
- 4 ORs, 3 Endoscopy rooms
- ~70 FTEs with direct leadership support (Manager starting Nov., 3 Clinical Nurse Coordinators).
- Case volume: 7–26 per day (orthopedics, general, sports medicine, robotics, and expanding GYN).
- Strong anesthesia partnership and collaborative physician relationships.
