Recreational Therapist – Behavioral Medicine
Location: Alamogordo, NM
Employment Type: Full-Time
Summary:
The Recreational Therapist organizes and facilitates activities such as sports, drama, nature exploration, social events, and arts and crafts to promote improvement in patients’ physical, mental, and social well-being. The therapist documents patient progress and collaborates with the treatment team to adjust therapy plans based on individual needs and abilities.
Responsibilities:
- Implement recreational therapy interventions within an interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Carry out individualized treatment plans designed to support patient recovery and growth.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient progress and therapy sessions.
- Ensure compliance with all safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Requirements:
Education:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in therapeutic recreation or a related clinical setting preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), or certification through the Consortium for Therapeutic Recreation/Activities (e.g., TRS/TXC or TRA/TXC).
- Current CPR certification (American Heart Association).
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification required within 90 days of hire or transfer.
