Laboratory Director – Acute Care Facility
Reports To: Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Team Size: Approximately 75 FTEs
Departments Overseen: Laboratory & Phlebotomy
Role Overview
Seeking an experienced Laboratory Director to lead and oversee all Laboratory Services, including Blood Bank, Chemistry & Hematology, and Microbiology departments at a large acute care facility.
This leader will manage operations, develop staff, ensure regulatory compliance, and uphold the organization’s mission and values. The Director will serve as the primary administrative and clinical leader for the laboratory and maintain the highest ethical and professional standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic planning, coordination, and operations of all laboratory services.
- Oversee Blood Bank, Chemistry & Hematology, Microbiology, and Phlebotomy departments.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and other regulatory standards.
- Maintain quality assurance and performance improvement programs.
- Manage staffing, budgeting, personnel development, and equipment resources.
- Communicate organizational expectations and support a culture of excellence.
- Collaborate closely with hospital leadership and clinical partners.
Required Qualifications
- Recent acute care laboratory supervisory experience (years not specified)
- State licensure as a Medical Technologist
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in:
- Clinical Laboratory Science
- Medical Technology
- Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science
- Registered with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP)
