DIRECTOR OF EMERGENCY SERVICES

This is a rare opportunity for a seasoned Emergency Services leader to step into a high-impact Director role at a Trauma Level II Emergency Department serving a rapidly growing coastal community.
The Director of Emergency Services provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership across a 40-bed main ED and two freestanding EDs, with a third FSED opening this year. This role is ideal for an energetic, visible leader who thrives in fast-paced environments, inspires teams, and drives performance through accountability, quality, and engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Quality & Patient Safety
- Lead evidence-based nursing practice to improve outcomes, safety, and efficiency
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and trauma standards
- Drive patient throughput, flow optimization, and admission/discharge efficiency
- Maintain readiness for Primary Stroke and STEMI programs
- Oversee equipment maintenance and regulatory readiness
Operations & Throughput
- Direct daily ED operations across the main department and freestanding sites
- Forecast volume and staffing needs (average 120–125 visits/day)
- Ensure appropriate staffing mix and competencies for acuity and volume
- Standardize policies, workflows, and clinical practice across sites
People Leadership
- Inspire, mentor, and develop frontline leaders and staff
- Build a culture of accountability, trust, and professional growth
- Lead through change, stabilize turnover, and support onboarding of new graduates
- Develop future leaders through coaching and performance feedback
Service & Experience
- Elevate the patient and family experience through visible leadership
- Utilize patient feedback data to drive service excellence
- Partner with interdisciplinary teams to improve satisfaction and outcomes
Financial & Strategic Leadership
- Lead annual budgeting, labor management, and productivity initiatives
- Monitor expenses, staffing efficiency, and premium pay utilization
- Identify growth opportunities, service expansion, and operational improvements
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years current or recent Emergency Department Director experience
- Level I or Level II Trauma leadership experience REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) REQUIRED
- Master’s Degree preferred
- Proven success with metrics, quality outcomes, and operational performance
