Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA)
Myrtle Beach, SC
$40 to $50 per hour

Position Summary
The RN First Assist (RNFA) provides perioperative nursing care and surgical first assist support in collaboration with surgeons and the surgical services team to ensure safe, high-quality surgical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, evidence-based perioperative nursing care aligned with physician orders and standards of practice.
- Assess patients, develop individualized plans of care, and document in the EMR.
- Prepare OR, equipment, and patients for procedures; position and prep patients.
- Initiate and maintain surgical counts; perform time-out and safe surgery verification.
- Assist surgeons during procedures, anticipating needs and providing operative field visualization.
- Support hemostasis, wound closure, postoperative local anesthetic injection, and dressing application per surgeon direction.
- Administer medications, blood, and blood products per policy.
- Delegate, supervise, and support surgical team members.
- Respond to emergent situations, including code response and malignant hyperthermia protocols.
- Maintain patient privacy and provide family communication and education.
- Follow infection prevention, safety, and regulatory compliance standards.
- Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and performance initiatives.
- Precept, mentor, and assist with orientation of new staff and students.
- Serve as charge nurse and assist with daily OR operations when assigned.
- Participate in call rotation and float to similar units as needed.
Qualifications
- 3–4 years related experience (minimum 2 years OR experience)
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Licensure & Certifications
- Active South Carolina RN License
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- Completion of an AORN-accredited RN First Assist (RNFA) program
