Hospice Home Health Aide
Fulltime M-F No weekends
Detroit MI (Wayne County)
$20-$22/hour
A hospice aide provides compassionate, end of life personal care, and supports the patients in homes or facilities. Key duties include bathing, grooming, dressing, light housekeeping, and monitoring vitals to ensure patient comfort and dignity. They also report changes in condition and offer emotional support to families.
Core Responsibilities
- Personal Care: Assisting with daily tasks like bathing, toileting, dressing, grooming, and oral care.
- Patient Monitoring: Observing changes in the patient’s physical or mental condition and reporting them to the nurse.
- Basic Health Tasks: Taking vitals such as blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
- Support Services: Performing light housekeeping (laundry, tidying) and preparing meals.
- Emotional Support: Offering companionship and comfort to patients and their families.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Certification: Most positions require a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Home Health Aide (HHA) license.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Previous experience in healthcare, particularly hospice or home health, is often preferred.
- Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, patience, and the ability to work independently.
- Logistics: Reliable transportation, driver’s license, and, in some cases, auto insurance are required for home visits.
Work Environment
- Hospice aides typically travel to patient homes, nursing homes, or assisted living facilities.
- The role requires lifting, turning, and positioning patients.
