Pharmacy Manager
Location: Tulsa
Position Summary
The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all pharmacy operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant medication services. This role oversees departmental staff, manages budgets and reporting, supports clinical initiatives, and serves as a key liaison between pharmacy services and organizational leadership. The Pharmacy Manager exercises independent judgment in operational and clinical decision-making while maintaining alignment with healthcare regulations and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership & Oversight
- Direct day-to-day pharmacy operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
- Supervise pharmacy staff (3–9 direct reports), including pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
- Train and onboard new pharmacists and technicians; assist with performance evaluations and professional development.
- Prepare and manage departmental budgets, financial reports, and operational metrics.
- Maintain cost-effective purchasing practices and oversee inventory control processes.
- Monitor controlled substance records and floor stock documentation; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
Clinical & Medication Management
- Review and verify physician medication orders for accuracy and appropriateness; oversee technician order entry.
- Conduct patient medication profile reviews to support drug utilization evaluations, adverse drug reaction monitoring, infection control initiatives, neuroleptic monitoring, and food-drug interaction management.
- Provide drug information and clinical guidance to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Report clinical findings and quality initiatives to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee or other designated committees.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Audit automated dispensing systems to ensure medication accountability and regulatory compliance.
- Report discrepancies to nursing leadership and hospital management as appropriate.
- Support quality assurance programs and continuous process improvement efforts.
Collaboration & Communication
- Serve as liaison between pharmacy services and administration, medical staff, nursing staff, and other departments.
- Work closely with leadership at the director level and above to align pharmacy services with organizational goals.
- Interact directly with patients and internal and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality service delivery.
Qualifications
Required Education
- Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy.
Required Licensure
- Active pharmacist license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy
Required Experience & Skills
- 3–4 years of related pharmacy experience.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment in complex clinical and operational environments.
- Knowledge of pharmacy operations, medication safety practices, and regulatory compliance standards.
