Trauma & Acute Care Surgery APP Nocturnist (NP or PA)
Loveland, Colorado
Full-Time Nights | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
A highly respected Level II Trauma Center in Northern Colorado is seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join its Trauma and Acute Care Surgery team as a full-time Nocturnist. This is an outstanding opportunity to work in a high-acuity surgical environment alongside an experienced multidisciplinary trauma team within one of the Rocky Mountain region’s premier healthcare systems.
The ideal candidate will have prior trauma, critical care, acute care surgery, or surgical APP experience and be comfortable practicing autonomously in a fast-paced overnight setting.
Position Overview
The APP Nocturnist will provide comprehensive overnight trauma and acute care surgery coverage, managing trauma admissions, emergency general surgery patients, and inpatient surgical care. This role requires strong clinical judgment, procedural confidence, and the ability to collaborate effectively with trauma surgeons, physicians, nurses, and ancillary teams. Candidates must have prior trauma/surgical APP experience or completion of a surgical fellowship. New graduates will not be considered.
Responsibilities
- Provide overnight trauma and acute care surgery coverage (7P–7A)
- Manage trauma admissions and emergency general surgery patients across inpatient settings
- Perform evaluations, develop treatment plans, and interpret diagnostic studies
- Assist with procedures, resuscitations, and ongoing surgical patient management
- Collaborate closely with trauma surgeons and multidisciplinary clinical teams
- Document all patient care within Epic EMR
- Maintain high standards of patient safety, quality, and clinical performance
- Support departmental initiatives, professional development, and leadership activities
Qualifications
- Licensed Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant required
- Minimum of 2 years of trauma surgery, critical care, acute care surgery, or surgical APP experience required OR completion of a surgical fellowship
- New graduates will not be considered
- NCCPA certification required for PAs
- ANCC or AANPCB certification required for NPs
- Active or eligible Colorado license required
- DEA eligibility required
- BLS certification required
- Clean malpractice and licensure history strongly preferred
- Must be eligible for Medicare/Medicaid provider enrollment
- Must have no exclusions or sanctions from HHS/OIG or GSA
- Visa sponsorship unavailable (no J-1 or H-1B sponsorship)
- No locums or locums-to-permanent candidates
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual compensation ranging from $135,000 – $180,000 based on experience
