Oncology Registered Dietitian
Fulltime
Day Shift
M-F 9am-5pm
Position Summary
The Oncology Dietitian assesses the nutritional status of cancer patients, develops individualized nutrition care plans, and provides ongoing education and support to help patients maintain optimal nutritional health throughout treatment. This role works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary healthcare team to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered cancer care.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Adhere to organizational policies, procedures, performance standards, and professional behaviors.
- Utilize clinical judgment and appropriate decision-making processes to prioritize and address patient care needs.
- Identify and resolve patient care issues through timely and appropriate actions.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Incorporate patient rights and patient-centered care principles into daily practice.
- Follow and support infection prevention and control protocols.
- Participate in quality improvement and performance enhancement initiatives.
- Utilize cost-conscious practices while maintaining high standards of patient care.
- Assess and identify the educational needs of patients and caregivers.
- Provide nutrition education and counseling to patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Remain current with evidence-based nutrition research, oncology nutrition guidelines, and best practices.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation within electronic health record systems.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
- Minimum of three years of clinical nutrition experience, preferably with a focus on oncology.
- Specialist in Oncology Nutrition (CSO) credential preferred, or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire.
- Experience utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Demonstrated experience in patient education, counseling, and public speaking.
- Completion of required organizational orientation and departmental training programs.
