Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Histotechnologist, or Histotechnician

Full-Time | Evening Shift | Monday–Friday
A leading hospital laboratory is seeking a detail-oriented Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Histotechnician to join its Anatomic Pathology team. This role is open to candidates from either a Clinical Laboratory Science or Histology background with the appropriate New York State licensure and experience.
This role is responsible for performing histological procedures and laboratory testing using both manual and automated techniques to produce high-quality pathology slides and accurate laboratory results that support patient diagnosis and care. Compensation
- Salary Range: $94,000 – $121,000 annually
- Histotechnologist – $94,000 – $121,000 (based on full-time employment)
- Histotechnician – $64,000 – $95,000 (based on full-time employment)
Compensation is based on experience, education, certifications, and internal equity.
Position Responsibilities
Clinical Laboratory Scientist Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory testing in accordance with established laboratory procedures and quality standards
- Ensure accuracy throughout pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic testing phases
- Maintain quality control, calibration, maintenance, and proficiency testing records
- Identify and troubleshoot testing issues and document corrective actions
- Notify clinicians and patient care units of critical values while meeting STAT turnaround requirements
- Participate in CAP, AABB, NYSDOH, and Joint Commission regulatory readiness activities
- Assist with validations, competency assessments, inspections, and quality improvement initiatives
- Maintain inventory control, lot tracking, expiration monitoring, and quality assurance documentation
- Complete continuing education requirements and mandatory training programs
Histotechnologist / Histotechnician Responsibilities
- Perform embedding and sectioning of tissue blocks according to established protocols
- Evaluate routine H&E stains and correct inconsistencies prior to slide release
- Perform and evaluate special stains and immunohistochemistry procedures
- Review and document positive and negative controls for all staining procedures
- Maintain adherence to quality standards, sterile practices, and laboratory policies
- Support pathology operations and workflow efficiency
Qualifications
Clinical Laboratory Scientist Requirements
- Current New York State License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Histotechnologist, or Physician Assistant required
- Education meeting NYS Office of Professions and CLIA requirements
- ASCP Certification preferred
Histotechnologist / Histotechnician Requirements
- Current New York State Clinical Laboratory Technician License or Histotechnician License required
- Degree in Medical Technology or related science preferred
- One year of hospital histology experience preferred
- ASCP Certification preferred
