Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant (NP/PA)
Cardiac Surgery | Colorado Springs, Colorado | Full-Time Days
An established and highly respected Acute Care Health System’s Cardiac Surgery program is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) with cardiothoracic surgery expertise, ICU patient management experience, and strong surgical skills to join its growing team in Colorado Springs. This role offers a unique opportunity to practice across the full continuum of cardiothoracic surgical care, including operating room first assist responsibilities, endoscopic vein harvesting, CVICU management, inpatient rounding, and outpatient clinic care. The ideal candidate will have prior cardiac or cardiovascular surgery experience and thrive in a collaborative, high-acuity environment.
Schedule
- Full-time daytime position
- Monday through Friday
- Rotating call schedule:
- 1:4–1:5 weekday call
- 1:4–1:5 weekend call
- Dedicated overnight in-house APP coverage from 8:30 PM to 6:30 AM
Position Responsibilities
- Provide advanced clinical care for cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery patients
- Assist in cardiac surgical procedures, including endoscopic vein harvesting and first assisting
- Manage CVICU, inpatient, and post-operative cardiac surgery patients
- Conduct patient evaluations, rounds, consultations, and follow-up care
- Participate in two full clinic days per week and additional clinic coverage as needed
- Rotate through operating room coverage and surgical support responsibilities
- Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory, diagnostic, and imaging studies
- Develop and implement treatment plans based on patient outcomes
- Prescribe medications and provide procedural care within scope of practice
- Collaborate closely with cardiac surgeons, intensivists, nurses, and multidisciplinary care teams
- Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation
- Deliver exceptional patient-centered care in a fast-paced surgical environment
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual salary: $100,000 – $145,000 based on experience

Required Qualifications
Nurse Practitioners
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
- Master’s Degree in Nursing
- Board Certification through ANCC or AANPCB
Physician Assistants
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies
- Current NCCPA Certification (PA-C)
All Candidates
- Active Colorado license or eligibility to obtain
- Current DEA registration with prescriptive authority
- Current BLS certification
- Eligible for Medicare and Medicaid provider enrollment
- No sanctions or exclusions through HHS/OIG or GSA
Required
- Minimum three (3) years of cardiac surgery, cardiovascular surgery, or cardiothoracic surgery experience
- ICU patient management experience
- Experience with endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH) and/or cardiac surgery first assisting
Preferred
- Strong cardiovascular critical care background
- Clean malpractice and licensure history
