Senior Quality Specialist
Location: Houston, TX (Onsite)
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday-Friday | Onsite Position
Position Summary
A leading healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Senior Quality Specialist to drive quality improvement initiatives that enhance patient safety, clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, and health equity across a large acute care health system.
This role is responsible for reviewing, monitoring, and analyzing clinical and operational data to support performance improvement efforts measured through national quality programs including CMS, Vizient, Leapfrog, and U.S. News & World Report rankings. The Senior Quality Specialist will partner with executive leadership, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams to identify opportunities for care redesign, process improvement, waste reduction, and clinical excellence.
The ideal candidate combines strong clinical and analytical expertise with project leadership skills to influence organizational outcomes and improve healthcare delivery through evidence-based practices.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Public Health, Business, Economics, Computer Science, Pharmacy, or related field required
- Master’s Degree preferred
Required Certification
Must possess at least one of the following:
- Project Management Certification
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification
- Robust Process Improvement (RPI) Certification
Experience
- Seven (7) years of progressive healthcare experience required
- Five (5) years may be considered with a Master’s Degree
- Experience within a large acute care hospital or healthcare system in one or more of the following:
- Quality Improvement / Quality Assurance
- Data-Driven Performance Improvement
- Value-Based Care
- Clinical background (RN, Pharmacist, or similar) preferred
- Epic experience preferred
Technical Skills
- Advanced data analysis and performance improvement experience
- Ability to translate data into actionable recommendations and executive-level dashboards
- Strong project management and change management skills
- Experience with:
- Excel
- Tableau
- Minitab
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
Key Responsibilities
- Lead system-wide quality improvement, patient safety, utilization, and health equity initiatives.
- Facilitate multidisciplinary committees, workgroups, and performance improvement projects.
- Partner with physicians and operational leaders to improve clinical outcomes and patient experience.
- Analyze quality, cost, utilization, and patient satisfaction data to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Develop targeted interventions, care redesign strategies, implementation plans, and performance metrics.
- Create and implement evidence-based clinical pathways and standardized workflows.
- Collaborate with clinical, pharmacy, nursing, IT, and analytics teams to optimize clinical decision support tools and Epic order sets.
- Design and maintain meaningful dashboards, reports, and performance metrics.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and external reporting requirements including:
- CMS
- Joint Commission
- Leapfrog
- Vizient
- MACRA
- U.S. News & World Report
- Provide mentorship and coaching to quality professionals and operational leaders.
- Lead strategic quality initiatives across multiple departments and service lines.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement through Lean, Six Sigma, PDCA, and other quality methodologies.
- Present findings, best practices, and outcomes to leadership teams and stakeholders.
