Central Sterile Processing Manager
Location: White Plains, NY
Schedule: Full-Time | Days | Monday–Friday
Compensation: $115,000–$167,000 annually
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Central Sterile Processing Manager to lead the daily operations of a hospital Central Sterile/Supply Processing Department.
This is a key leadership position responsible for department operations, staffing, productivity, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, instrumentation management, and coordination with the Operating Room and other clinical departments.
The ideal candidate brings strong Sterile Processing and/or Operating Room experience, demonstrated leadership ability, and a thorough understanding of sterilization standards, instrumentation, regulatory requirements, and hospital operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the Central Sterile Processing Department.
- Manage department staffing, scheduling, daily assignments, workflow, and resource planning.
- Ensure department operations meet hospital policies and applicable regulatory and quality standards.
- Monitor productivity, quality metrics, sterilization records, immediate-use sterilization logs, and other department performance indicators.
- Oversee instrument decontamination, preparation, sterilization, storage, and distribution processes.
- Maintain and update instrument set lists, tray configurations, images, and master inventory records.
- Coordinate instrument repairs, purchases, replacements, and out-of-service equipment.
- Manage vendor tray processing and instrument tray change requests.
- Maintain current manufacturer instructions and guidelines for instruments and equipment.
- Oversee emergency cart exchanges and other specialized equipment and supply processes.
- Coordinate closely with the Operating Room, physicians, nursing, ancillary departments, and other hospital stakeholders.
- Lead new employee orientation, training, competencies, protocols, and ongoing staff development.
- Maintain and update departmental policies, procedures, competencies, and guidelines.
- Investigate operational issues, review variance reports, and implement corrective actions.
- Manage employee performance and disciplinary matters when necessary.
- Lead continuous quality assurance and process improvement initiatives.
- Troubleshoot daily operational issues and ensure appropriate coverage and workflow in a fast-paced hospital environment.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant Operating Room and/or Central Sterile Processing experience.
- Current CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) or equivalent Central Sterile Processing certification.
- Ability to obtain applicable CRCST leadership or specialty certification within 3 years of hire.
- Strong knowledge of sterilization practices, instrumentation, quality assurance, and sterile processing operations.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, communication, and prioritization skills.
- Ability to remain composed and make sound decisions in a fast-paced hospital environment.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements associated with sterile processing operations, including handling and transporting instrumentation and equipment.
Preferred:
- Associate degree or higher.
- Previous management or supervisory experience within Sterile Processing, Central Supply, or the Operating Room.
- Demonstrated experience leading staff, managing schedules, and improving department operations and quality.
