Director of Emergency Room | Houston, TX
Schedule: Days | No Weekends
Salary: $160,000–$180,000, based on experience
Annual Incentive: 17.5%–26.25%
Facility: Acute care hospital | Level II Trauma Center
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Director of Emergency Room Services to lead a high-volume adult Emergency Department at a large acute care hospital in the Houston area.
This is a significant leadership opportunity overseeing an adult ED with 40 care spaces, approximately 80–85 FTEs, and daily volume of 175–200 patients. Reporting directly to the VP of Emergency Services, the Director will have responsibility for clinical quality, patient experience, staff engagement, operational performance, growth, and financial management.
Key Responsibilities
The Director of Emergency Services provides strategic and operational leadership for the Emergency Department while ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care.
Responsibilities include leading nursing practice and daily department operations; driving patient safety, quality, throughput, and clinical outcomes; managing staffing, productivity, scheduling, labor utilization, and department expenses; and developing and monitoring annual operating and capital budgets.
The Director will also lead efforts to improve patient and employee experience, recruit and retain high-performing team members, coach and develop department leaders, maintain regulatory and accreditation compliance, and collaborate closely with physicians and hospital leadership.
This leader will identify opportunities to improve existing services, support department growth, implement evidence-based practices, and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate is a proven Emergency Services leader who has recent Director-level ED experience within a large acute care hospital and is comfortable leading a complex, high-volume department.

Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required
- Master’s degree preferred
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of recent acute care Emergency Department Director experience
- Current/recent ED Director experience within the last year strongly required
- Experience must include leadership within a large acute care hospital
- Demonstrated experience managing a high-volume Emergency Department
- Strong background in quality, staffing, budgeting, patient experience, and operational performance
