Cardio Cath Lab Tech
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

Position Summary
The Catheterization Laboratory Technologist I plays an essential role in supporting cardiac catheterization procedures by preparing the lab, operating specialized equipment, and assisting physicians throughout procedures.
This position is responsible for fluoroscopic imaging, digital image acquisition, accurate patient documentation, and hemodynamic monitoring while maintaining strict standards for patient safety, sterile technique, and radiation protection.
The technologist works closely with the cardiac catheterization team to provide efficient, high-quality patient care while continuing to develop proficiency in advanced cardiovascular technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare catheterization laboratory rooms, equipment, and supplies for scheduled procedures.
- Perform daily equipment checks, quality control documentation, and supply inventory.
- Review patient schedules and relevant clinical information before procedures.
- Operate fluoroscopic imaging and digital image acquisition equipment.
- Document procedures, hemodynamic measurements, and ECG findings accurately.
- Assist physicians during cardiac catheterization procedures, anticipating equipment and procedural needs.
- Maintain proper patient positioning and safety throughout procedures.
- Develop proficiency in specialized equipment, including:
- Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS)
- Intracardiac echocardiography (ICE)
- Contrast injectors
- Hemodynamic monitoring systems
- Intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP)
- Rotational atherectomy equipment
- Thrombectomy devices
- Left ventricular assist devices
- Maintain aseptic technique and immediately address breaks in sterile procedures.
- Follow infection prevention, patient privacy, and radiation safety protocols.
- Assist with patient transportation and vascular access site management as appropriate.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other cardiovascular professionals to ensure effective patient care.
- Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives and continuing education.
- Maintain compliance with departmental productivity, attendance, and professional standards.
Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program, associate degree in a healthcare-related field, or an acceptable equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience
- 0–1 year of acute care experience preferred.
- Candidates beginning their cardiovascular technology careers are encouraged to apply.
Required Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required within six months of hire to work independently.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within six months of hire to work independently at pediatric facilities.
Preferred Certifications
One of the following certifications is preferred:
- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) – CCI
- Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) – CCI
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) – CCI
- Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT-R)
- Cardiac Interventional Radiography (ARRT-CI)
- Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography (ARRT-CV)
- Vascular Interventional Radiography (ARRT-VI)
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer – Abdomen (RDMS-AB)
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer – OB/GYN (RDMS-OB/GYN)
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer – Adult Echocardiography (RDCS-AE)
- Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) – ARDMS
Individuals whose ARRT certification lapsed before June 1, 2023, may qualify under applicable LSRTBE exemption criteria.
State Licensure
Appropriate state licensure is required based on the applicable modality and location:
- Texas: MRT or LMRT through the Texas Medical Board
- Louisiana: LRT (R) or (F) through LSRTBE
- New Mexico: RRT or FUS through MIRTP NMED
All required certifications and licenses must be obtained and maintained within the designated time frames.
