Overview:
A highly regarded acute care hospital in the heart of Houston is seeking an experienced Director of Surgical Services to lead and optimize a busy and complex surgical department. This opportunity is ideal for a forward-thinking clinical leader with a proven track record of operational excellence, staff development, and high-impact surgical oversight.
As the Director, you’ll be responsible for strategic, operational, clinical, and financial leadership across perioperative services—including a minimum of 8 operating rooms and multiple complex service lines.
🔑 Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Provide vision, direction, and leadership to surgical services staff
- Drive alignment of departmental goals with organizational objectives
- Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and collaboration
Clinical & Quality Oversight
- Promote clinical excellence through adherence to evidence-based standards
- Ensure regulatory compliance, staff competency, and accreditation readiness
- Optimize OR throughput, scheduling, and resource utilization
Staff Development
- Recruit, mentor, and retain high-performing surgical teams
- Lead training, coaching, and succession planning initiatives
- Cultivate a supportive and engaged workplace culture
Patient Experience
- Implement innovative strategies to elevate the surgical patient journey
- Partner with cross-functional teams to improve patient satisfaction
- Monitor and respond to feedback to ensure service excellence
Financial & Operational Management
- Oversee budgeting, staffing, and cost containment efforts
- Monitor productivity, labor management, and performance indicators
- Lead initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce variance
📌 Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 1–2 years of recent Director-level experience in Surgical Services within an acute care setting
- Oversight of at least 8 operating rooms and multiple high-complexity surgical service lines
- Bachelor’s degree required (BSN preferred)
- Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills
