Ultrasound Technologist – Breast Imaging (Full Time)

Reports to: Ultrasound Manager and Lead Ultrasound Technologist


Position Summary:

Under general supervision, the Ultrasound Technologist provides high-quality diagnostic sonographic images for radiologists, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and confidentiality. This role also contributes to departmental efficiency, operational excellence, and adherence to hospital policies and values.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform a wide range of ultrasound examinations, ensuring diagnostic quality.
  • Assist physicians with sterile invasive procedures (e.g., biopsies, aspirations).
  • Prepare exam rooms and maintain equipment according to infection control and safety protocols.
  • Ensure timely completion of studies while maintaining patient comfort and modesty.
  • Confirm exam requisitions and patient history to ensure appropriate imaging studies.
  • Collaborate with radiologists to obtain necessary views and perform specialized techniques.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot ultrasound equipment to ensure operational readiness.
  • Follow high-level disinfection procedures for equipment and rooms.
  • Demonstrate patient-focused care through professional communication and empathy.
  • Document all exams accurately within PACS, RIS, Epic, and other hospital systems.
  • Uphold hospital values and behavioral standards (BMC’s RESPECT guidelines).
  • Participate in departmental coverage, including evening, night, weekend, and on-call shifts as needed.


Education:

  • Associate’s degree or certificate in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (required).


Certifications/Licenses:

  • ARDMS certification in OB, AB, or RVT required.
  • OB/GYN candidates have one year post-hire to obtain certification.


Experience:

  • Previous clinical experience preferred.


Knowledge & Skills:

  • Comprehensive understanding of ultrasound principles and techniques.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining ultrasound equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with patients, physicians, and team members.
  • Must be adaptable and reliable in a 24/7 clinical environment.


Special Working Conditions:

  • Department operates 24/7 — flexibility in scheduling is required.
  • Occasional mandatory overtime or shift coverage may be necessary.
