EHR Technical Systems Manager

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

(After-hours and weekend participation required for upgrades and major system events)

Compensation: $100,000 – $140,000 (based on experience)

Sign-On Bonus: $10,000 (available for candidates residing outside a 71-mile radius; 2-year commitment required)


REQUIRED

-Minimum five (5) years of related experience working in a technical EHR/EMR environment.

-Functional knowledge of SQL database operations, Epic Operational Database, Epic Client Systems infrastructure, and Epic Analytics products.


Position Overview


We are seeking an experienced EHR Technical Systems Manager to lead the technical planning, coordination, and operations of a large-scale Epic environment and its supporting infrastructure.


This leadership role oversees core Epic infrastructure components including Operational Database (ODB/IRIS), Cogito administration, Client Systems, SQL administration, and system integrations. The manager will lead a team of database administrators and client systems administrators while ensuring system stability, compliance, performance optimization, and disaster recovery readiness. This is a highly visible role requiring strong project management, governance oversight, and calm, decisive leadership during upgrades and critical incidents.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all technical operations within the Epic infrastructure environment.
  • Manage and execute quarterly upgrades, monthly updates, SPREs, and SUs — often performed after hours.
  • Oversee disaster recovery planning, testing, and system resiliency strategies.
  • Ensure change control processes are properly reviewed, approved, documented, and implemented.
  • Maintain compliance with enterprise standards and applicable federal/state regulations.
  • Benchmark, analyze, and recommend improvements to optimize Epic system performance and scalability.
  • Partner closely with Information Security, infrastructure teams, application analysts, clinicians, and executive leadership.
  • Manage vendor and consultant contracts related to Epic infrastructure.
  • Develop and manage capital and operational budgets.
  • Provide direct supervision, performance evaluations, coaching, and professional development for team members.
  • Anticipate downstream system impacts and ensure system uptime, performance, and recovery.


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in a technical EHR/EMR environment.
  • Minimum 8 years of enterprise-level IT experience (may substitute for degree requirement).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Epic Systems Certification (required).
  • Strong working knowledge of:
  • SQL database administration
  • Epic Operational Database (ODB/IRIS)
  • Epic Client Systems infrastructure
  • Epic Analytics/Cogito products
  • Knowledge of IT change control management processes.
  • Experience managing technical teams in a healthcare IT setting.


Technical & Leadership Skills

  • Strong project management skills with experience leading complex system initiatives.
  • Solid understanding of Epic system interactions (ODB/IRIS, Cogito, Chronicles, external integrations).
  • Familiarity with IT governance frameworks such as ITIL.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Calm, decisive leadership style during upgrades, incidents, and system recovery situations.
  • Strong written communication and coaching abilities.
