Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Multi-Site Specialty Healthcare Practice

Position Overview

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for the overall operational performance, efficiency, and growth of a high-volume, multi-site specialty healthcare practice. This role partners closely with physician leadership to optimize clinical workflows, enhance the patient experience, and drive financial performance across all locations.

The COO will ensure standardized, high-quality operations while supporting strategic expansion and maintaining regulatory compliance in a fast-paced, procedure-driven environment.


Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee day-to-day operations across all practice locations
  • Standardize workflows, policies, and procedures to ensure consistency and efficiency
  • Optimize patient flow, provider scheduling, and resource utilization in a high-throughput setting

Physician Partnership

  • Collaborate with physician leadership to improve clinical efficiency and throughput
  • Translate provider needs into scalable operational systems
  • Enable providers to focus on patient care and productivity by removing operational barriers

Financial Management

  • Manage P&L performance across all sites
  • Oversee revenue cycle operations, including billing, coding, and collections
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and improve operational margins
  • Evaluate ROI for new services, capital investments, and expansion initiatives

Team Leadership & Culture

  • Lead, mentor, and develop site managers and operational staff
  • Drive recruitment, retention, and performance management strategies
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and patient-centered care

Data & Performance Management

  • Develop and monitor KPIs (e.g., case volume, room utilization, wait times, revenue per provider)
  • Use data analytics to guide decision-making and continuous improvement
  • Implement reporting systems and dashboards to support leadership visibility

Growth & Strategic Expansion

  • Support new site openings, acquisitions, and service line expansion
  • Ensure seamless integration of new providers and locations
  • Identify opportunities for growth, including ancillary and cash-pay service lines

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure adherence to HIPAA, OSHA, and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Oversee clinical and operational compliance programs
  • Maintain credentialing, licensure, and accreditation standards

Vendor & Infrastructure Oversight

  • Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and supply chain
  • Oversee EMR systems, clinical equipment, and facility operations
  • Ensure optimal technology utilization across all sites


Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • 7–10+ years of healthcare operations leadership experience
  • Multi-site management experience in ambulatory, specialty medical group, surgical, or outpatient settings
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing P&Ls
  • Proven ability to lead teams and drive operational performance in a growth-oriented environment
