Consistently recognized as a Great Place to Work, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Registered Nurse to join our Operating Room team as a Unit Leader. About the Role:
The Unit Leader plays a vital role in supporting bedside nurses, ensuring safe patient care, and achieving organizational and departmental goals. Collaborating with the Nurse Manager, you will utilize your leadership and communication skills to be an effective change agent within the OR. You will serve as a role model, demonstrating strong time management, conflict resolution, and delegation skills, acting as a liaison between management, staff, physicians, patients, families, and other departments.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with the Nurse Manager and Assistant Nurse Manager to:
- Ensure quality, safe patient care and clinical services are delivered according to established standards.
- Serve as a positive role model, providing coaching, mentoring, problem-solving, and resource support to staff.
- Identify, develop, implement, and monitor unit-based quality and performance improvement initiatives.
- Maintain flexibility with scheduling to provide clinical leadership and meet unit needs.
- Adhere to the unit budget and manage nursing staff and resources within budgetary guidelines.
- Collaborate with physicians and the healthcare team to ensure optimal, age-appropriate patient care.
- Identify and implement nursing best practices to develop standards and protocols.
- Participate clinically in patient care and accept patient care assignments as needed.
- Ensure staff participate in continuing education, shared governance, competency maintenance, and policy adherence.
- Participate in task forces, committees, and projects.
- Maintain a safe patient care and work environment compliant with regulatory agencies.
- Foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Demonstrate strong customer service skills, including patient rounding and monitoring patient satisfaction.
- Develop action plans to address deficiencies in patient and nursing satisfaction.
Qualifications:
- Current NY State RN license.
- BSN (or MSN) required.
- Knowledge of current nursing, medical, and health trends and practices.
- One year of RN experience in the OR preferred.
- BLS certification required.
- ACLS certification required (with specific timelines for new hires as outlined below).
- PALS certification required if working in PACU (with specific timelines for new hires as outlined below).
- NRP certification required if working in Mother-Baby, L&D, or NICU (with specific timelines for new hires as outlined below).
- Demonstrated basic knowledge of management skills.
- Previous management/leadership experience preferred.
- 2 years of previous clinical experience in the OR preferred.
- Ability to function as a staff RN.
Certification Timelines:
- ACLS: All newly hired, inexperienced nurses must obtain certification within 12 months. All newly hired, experienced nurses must obtain certification within 6 months.
- PALS: All newly hired, inexperienced nurses must obtain certification within 12 months. All newly hired, experienced nurses must obtain certification within 6 months.
- NRP: All newly hired nurses to the NICU, L&D, and Mother-Baby units must obtain certification within 6 months.
