Job Summary and Responsibilities:
The Medical Assistant plays a vital role in managing patient flow within the clinic and assisting healthcare providers in delivering high-quality care. This position involves working with diverse patient populations across all age groups, from infants to geriatrics, requiring individualized attention and support. The role focuses on collaborative, supportive, and delegated tasks in alignment with the Medical Assistant scope of practice. Tasks and competencies are governed by state regulations and the guidance of supervising nurses and providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform standard rooming procedures, including patient intake and preparation.
- Administer immunizations, injections, and medications as directed by providers.
- Collect laboratory specimens and conduct clinic-based tests.
- Assist with prescription refills and medication reconciliation.
- Provide telephone support and facilitate communication between patients and providers.
- Conduct phlebotomy procedures as needed.
- Perform x-ray duties if certified.
Support
- Provide front desk and check-in assistance as needed.
- Order, stock, and manage medical supplies.
- Assist with prior authorization requests and documentation.
- Maintain proficiency in all required skills and competencies.
- Uphold patient confidentiality and privacy standards.
- Adhere to legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
- Report concerns regarding compliance or patient care appropriately.
- Follow organizational policies and ethical standards in daily practice.
Education & Certification
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program is required.
- Certification through a recognized national health services organization is preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is required.
Experience & Skills
- Prior experience in a clinical setting is preferred.
- Strong ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and other medical software.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to travel to various local worksites if required (specific to Occupational Medicine roles).
