Job Summary:
An FSED RN is responsible for providing high-quality, urgent care to patients with a variety of medical conditions in a freestanding emergency department setting. These nurses quickly assess and triage patients, administer treatments and medications, assist with minor procedures, and stabilize patients in emergency situations. They work closely with physicians, paramedics, and other healthcare professionals to manage patient care, making critical decisions in fast-paced and high-pressure environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Assessment & Triage:
- Conduct rapid assessments of patients upon arrival, prioritizing care based on the severity of their condition (triage).
- Monitor vital signs, conduct physical assessments, and identify symptoms or changes that indicate critical conditions.
- Emergency Care & Stabilization:
- Provide immediate care for conditions like trauma, heart attacks, strokes, and other medical emergencies.
- Administer prescribed medications, injections, and fluids, and provide wound care or other procedures as needed.
- Perform life-saving procedures like CPR, airway management, or minor surgical interventions (e.g., suturing or splinting).
- Collaboration:
- Work alongside physicians, nurse practitioners, paramedics, and other healthcare team members to develop and implement treatment plans.
- Collaborate to determine whether a patient needs to be transferred to a higher-level care facility, such as a hospital.
- Patient Education & Discharge Planning:
- Provide patients and their families with detailed information regarding their diagnosis, treatment options, and aftercare instructions.
- Educate patients on medication management, follow-up care, and lifestyle changes to prevent further emergencies.
- Documentation:
- Maintain accurate patient records, documenting assessments, treatments, medications, and patient responses in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Ensure all documentation is completed in a timely manner, following facility standards and legal requirements.
- Crisis Management & Emergency Response:
- Respond quickly to critical medical situations, including trauma, cardiac arrest, or other life-threatening conditions.
- Assist in the management of codes, including resuscitation efforts and other urgent interventions.
- Quality & Safety:
- Adhere to infection control, safety protocols, and hospital policies to ensure patient safety.
- Assist with ongoing improvement initiatives to enhance the quality of care provided at the facility.
What qualifications you will need:
- 1 year of Recent (within the last 2-3 years) Acute Care RN experience (looking for ED, ICU, PCU experience; If a candidate has paramedic experience in their background, it’s a plus)
- Florida RN license and/or approved multistate RN license required. Compact license holders have 60 days to obtain the Florida license after relocation.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
- PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
- Trauma Nursing Core Course, or TNCC Instructor must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
