Job Summary and Responsibilities:

Seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to play a critical role in managing patient flow, supporting providers, and delivering high-quality, patient-centered care across various age groups, from infants to geriatrics. Working under the delegation and supervision of physicians and nurses, this role encompasses a combination of clinical and clerical duties outlined by the Minnesota Board of Nursing and the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice. The Medical Assistant collaborates closely with the Clinic Supervisor, Clinic Manager, and providers to support operational efficiency and patient satisfaction.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Room patients and perform standard intake procedures.
  • Administer immunizations, injections, and medications as directed by the provider.
  • Collect lab specimens and perform phlebotomy as needed.
  • Perform and document clinic-based laboratory tests.
  • Assist with medication refills and prescription processes.
  • Provide phone triage and facilitate communication between patients and providers.
  • Perform x-ray duties as needed (if certified as an x-ray operator).
  • Ensure accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record.


Clinic Support

  • Assist front desk staff with check-in and administrative support.
  • Order and stock medical supplies.
  • Assist with prior authorizations and other paperwork as directed.
  • Maintain exam rooms and ensure clean, organized clinical spaces.


Compliance & Communication

  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality per HIPAA and organizational guidelines.
  • Report concerns or violations to the supervisor or compliance officer.
  • Follow all legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards applicable to the role.
  • Actively participate in quality improvement and safety initiatives.


Teamwork & Accountability

  • Take direction from physicians, providers, registered nurses, clinic supervisors, and managers.
  • Maintain clinical skill proficiency and complete required competency assessments.
  • Stay current with role-specific training and participate in performance evaluations.
  • Accept additional duties as assigned to meet team or organizational goals.


Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) – Required
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program – Required
  • Medical Assistant Certification from a nationally recognized body (e.g., AAMA, AMT, NCCT) – Required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification – Required


Experience

  • Previous experience in a clinical setting – Required
  • Passed x-ray operator exam or willingness to complete it, if required by clinic – Preferred


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced clinical setting.
  • Proficiency in using computer software, including EMR systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to support patient interactions and team collaboration.
  • Local travel may be required (e.g., for Occupational Medicine assignments).
