General Manager – Dental Laboratory

Location: Georgia

Salary: DOE (125-150k)

The General Manager is responsible for driving profitable growth and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the dental laboratory. This includes managing workflow, developing and implementing processes and procedures, and ensuring operational excellence. The General Manager leads the management team in quality control, production oversight, accountability, and staff development. Success in this role is measured by the ability to achieve profitable sales growth, foster strong customer relationships, and collaborate effectively with executive leadership.

 

Essential Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Inspire, train, coach, and develop team members, proactively preparing staff for future growth opportunities.
  • Oversee all aspects of laboratory management, including performance reviews, goal setting, and ensuring accountability.
  • Manage daily operations, including the review and distribution of incoming work, workflow optimization, productivity monitoring, and quality control. Responsible for organizing, prioritizing, and planning daily tasks to guarantee timely delivery.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to ensure productivity targets and service expectations are met.
  • Enhance quality, efficiency, and profitability by implementing effective strategies and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify and address the root causes of internal and external remakes, working to minimize their recurrence.
  • Apply lean management principles to maximize the efficient use of space, equipment, materials, and personnel.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships by proactively addressing case concerns, following up on cases and remakes, and suggesting product upgrades or improvements. Responsible for onboarding new clients and ensuring their satisfaction.
  • Represent the laboratory in the local community, including visiting dental offices, meeting with practitioners, and delivering presentations.
  • Provide regular, consistent feedback to executive leadership.

Quality Control & Production Management

  • Oversee quality control across all departments to ensure products meet established standards.
  • Identify areas for production improvement, facilitate targeted training, and ensure timely completion of improvement plans.
  • Ensure daily production targets are met and hold staff accountable for achieving productivity goals.
  • Develop, standardize, and implement best practices throughout the laboratory.
  • Achieve optimal staffing levels while managing overhead and raw material costs to meet labor-to-sales ratios and production supply objectives.
  • Coordinate procedures to maintain smooth workflow and on-time delivery.
  • Recommend product enhancements, pricing adjustments, and process improvements, and ensure these are executed effectively.
  • Maintain up-to-date visual standards for all technical departments.
  • Ensure consistent adherence to standard operating procedures.
  • Enforce safety protocols and maintenance procedures, ensuring proper equipment use.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Associate degree in business management or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in a dental laboratory setting.
  • At least 5 years of management experience.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Consistently professional demeanor.
