Position Title: Manager – Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
Shift: Mixed Rotation (Days and Evenings, Weekend Coverage as Determined by Team)
Position Summary:
The ICU Manager is responsible for ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care by overseeing daily operations and staffing within the intensive care unit. This leader monitors nursing practices, upholds clinical standards, and promotes excellence in outcomes aligned with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote a strong clinical identity through the implementation of evidence-based practices to enhance patient safety and care quality.
- Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement in clinical performance and patient experience.
- Support standardization of clinical practices to increase efficiency and reduce variability.
- Maintain compliance with all internal policies, regulatory guidelines, and accreditation standards.
- Oversee equipment maintenance to ensure functionality and adherence to standards.
- Manage admission and discharge processes to promote efficient patient flow.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary care to ensure patient needs are met by appropriately skilled staff.
- Supervise nursing practice and unit operations, ensuring patient and family needs are consistently assessed and addressed.
- Champion a patient-centered approach, fostering an environment that delivers a superior patient experience.
- Inspire and lead teams by aligning practices with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
- Oversee staff scheduling and maintain appropriate staffing levels based on patient care demands and productivity standards.
- Manage departmental expenses, identifying and executing cost-saving measures without compromising quality of care.
Qualifications:
- Active RN license in the state of Florida.
- BLS and ACLS certifications required upon hire.
- BSN preferred (ADN accepted if candidate is currently enrolled in a BSN program).
- Recent acute care leadership experience within critical care is required:
- Minimum 5+ years of experience for candidates with only Charge RN background.
- 2+ years for Manager-level experience.
- 3+ years for Supervisor-level experience.
- Relief charge experience does not qualify.
Additional Details:
- Level II Trauma designation and two external freestanding emergency departments (FSEDs).
- Department staff includes approximately 135 team members (Managers, Clinical Nurse Coordinators, RNs, New Grads, Externs, Unit Secretaries).
- This position is one of two Managers reporting to the Director of Critical Care, followed by the ACNO and CNO.
- Patient population includes neuro, surgical, trauma, respiratory, and other complex ICU cases.
- Position is open due to an internal promotion.
