Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Chief Cytotechnologist to lead our Cytology team. In this critical role, you'll oversee daily operations, supervise cytotechnologists, assist with Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) procedures, and ensure compliance with NYS DOH and CAP standards. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage daily workflow within the Cytology section, including supervision and scheduling of staff.
- Screen gynecological and non-gynecological specimens, including FNAs, and flag unusual findings for pathologist review.
- Assist physicians during FNA procedures across departments (Radiology, Ambulatory Surgery, Endoscopy, Breast Imaging).
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory standards (CAP, NYSDOH); ensure SOPs are up-to-date and accurate.
- Prepare and submit QA/QC reports; participate in departmental meetings and audits.
- Oversee cytology records, CME tracking, and competency reviews for staff.
- Manage supply inventory and ensure readiness of procedure trays.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and performance management of Cytology team members.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Science + completion of an accredited Cytotechnology program. ASCP certified.
- Licensure: Current NYS Cytotechnologist license required.
- Experience: Minimum 3 years screening gynecologic, non-gynecologic, and FNA specimens.
- Certifications: ThinPrep certification required; familiarity with Bethesda reporting system.
- Preferred: Prior supervisory or team leadership experience in a clinical cytology setting.
