Position Overview
Working under limited supervision, the Quality Control Technician primarily handles inbound prescription clarification, impression/model grading, and may participate in outgoing quality assurance and control of fabrication standards. This role is responsible for upholding established quality standards and ensuring the overall quality of dental prosthetics and appliances.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately log and record case information and content in the database
- Maintain daily production and quality standards
- Use expertise in dental aesthetics to resolve complex issues related to case design and customer preferences
- Adhere to established protocols for case evaluation and impression scoring
- Continuously assess cases and determine appropriate resolutions
- Review prescription details for completeness and legibility
- Ensure clear and accurate photographic records are attached to each case
- Collaborate with team members and management on process improvement and quality initiatives
- Escalate observed issues, such as discrepancies between database information and prescription details or non-conformance to prescribed formats, to support quality and workflow improvements
- May occasionally fabricate or repair dental appliances, alter appliances, or test them for conformity to specifications and accuracy of occlusion for training purposes
Qualifications
- Ability to assess the feasibility of dental appliance manufacture
- Strong organizational skills and ability to follow an assigned schedule
- Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Comprehensive understanding of dental terminology and anatomy
- Ability to discern subtle variations in color and shading
- Proficient in the use of small hand tools
- Strong English communication skills (written and verbal)
- Knowledge of raw materials and production processes commonly used in dental laboratories
- Proficient computer skills, including multitasking between screens and mouse navigation
Special Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of dental laboratory technical experience
- Demonstrated expertise in complex case fabrication and problem-solving
- Experience with all phases of appliance fabrication, from impression to finish
- Certification in Dental Technology (CDT) preferred but not required
Outgoing Quality Control
- Minimum 3–5 years’ additional experience overseeing the work of dental technicians
Area-Specific Skills
Removable Prosthetics:
- Ability to recognize various production stages of removable prosthetic devices
Fixed Prosthetics:
- Ability to differentiate between repair and remake processes
Orthodontics:
- Ability to identify distortions and flaws in models
- Thorough understanding of and ability to recognize proper attachment positioning
