About the Role
The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Pharmacy Strategic Partnerships is a senior leadership position responsible for developing, optimizing, and managing key pharmacy partnerships and initiatives that create measurable value across the organization.
This role will work closely with internal pharmacy leadership, external members, and strategic partners to identify new opportunities for collaboration, improve performance, and drive innovation across programs such as specialty GPO services, technology partnerships, consulting engagements, and supplier relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Partnership Development
- Provide executive-level leadership for key strategic pharmacy initiatives and relationships.
- Build and maintain collaborative partnerships that deliver long-term business value.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of pharmacy leaders and analysts.
Specialty Program Oversight
- Oversee day-to-day operations and optimization of the specialty pharmacy program.
- Partner with internal sourcing, account management, and PBM teams to align on program strategy.
- Collaborate with external specialty pharmacy partners to ensure program success.
- Resolve operational challenges and support onboarding of new members.
- Develop and utilize analytics to measure program outcomes and opportunities.
Consulting & Business Growth
- Lead or participate in senior-level consulting engagements and strategy sessions.
- Define project goals, success milestones, and performance metrics.
- Engage with C-suite leaders (CEO, CFO, COO) to present analysis, insights, and recommendations.
- Support business development activities including proposals, white papers, and case studies.
- Identify and drive operational improvements across consulting services.
Financial & Analytical Oversight
- Analyze pharmacy financial and performance data to identify cost savings opportunities.
- Track and evaluate pharmacy supply expense metrics.
- Use data visualization tools such as Excel and Power BI to provide insights and recommendations.
- Support audit-related processes and financial reporting as needed.
Project & Operational Management
- Manage multiple complex initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
- Lead cross-functional teams and ensure timely achievement of project milestones.
- Establish clear goals for direct reports and monitor progress.
- Drive collaboration and continuous process improvement across business units.
Qualifications
- Pharmacist degree (PharmD or RPh) required; residency, fellowship, or board certification preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive pharmacy leadership experience, preferably in a large healthcare or multi-site setting.
- 8+ years in pharmacy supply expense management, consulting, or GPO operations.
- Experience in specialty or non-acute pharmacy strongly preferred.
- Active pharmacy license in good standing required.
- Proven ability to lead strategic initiatives, manage partnerships, and deliver measurable outcomes.
- Strong communication, analytical, and leadership skills.
Position Details
- Reports To: Vice President, Pharmacy
- Direct Reports: Two Senior Directors
- Location: Onsite in Nashville, TN (No hybrid or remote option)
- Travel: Approximately 10–15%
- Compensation: $170,000 to $190,000 base + 25% annual bonus, with potential multiplier up to 200% for exceeding goals.
- Relocation: Considered on a case-by-case basis.
Preferred Background
- Leadership experience in health system pharmacy, including physician clinics, home infusion, managed care, or specialty pharmacy.
- Skilled in supplier negotiations and collaboration with sourcing and operational teams.
- Strong financial acumen and project management expertise.
- Required: 8+ years in pharmacy supply expense management, consulting, GPO operations.
