Recreational Therapist – Behavioral Medicine

Location: Alamogordo, NM

Summary:

The Recreational Therapist organizes and facilitates activities such as sports, drama, nature exploration, social events, and arts and crafts to promote improvement in patients’ physical, mental, and social well-being. The therapist documents patient progress and collaborates with the treatment team to adjust therapy plans based on individual needs and abilities.

Responsibilities:

• Implement recreational therapy interventions within an interdisciplinary treatment team.
• Carry out individualized treatment plans designed to support patient recovery and growth.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient progress and therapy sessions.
• Ensure compliance with all safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Requirements:

Education:

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field.

Experience:

• Minimum of one (1) year of experience in therapeutic recreation or a related clinical setting preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

• Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), or certification through the Consortium for Therapeutic Recreation/Activities (e.g., TRS/TXC or TRA/TXC).
• Current CPR certification (American Heart Association).
• Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification required within 90 days of hire or transfer.
