Director of Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Why This Role
This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an experienced PCU nurse leader ready to own outcomes, elevate teams, and drive excellence in a progressive care environment. You’ll provide 24/7 operational and clinical leadership for a busy PCU within a large, highly respected acute-care hospital serving a broad regional referral base.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Quality & Safety
- Provide 24-hour accountability for clinical excellence, patient safety, and regulatory compliance
- Lead quality initiatives aligned with evidence-based practice and national standards
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols, infection prevention, and patient-centered care models
- Partner with interdisciplinary teams to optimize outcomes and throughput
Operations & Leadership
- Drive daily operations, staffing effectiveness, and patient flow across the PCU
- Promote a culture of accountability, engagement, and professional practice
- Lead rounding initiatives and proactive service recovery
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing leaders, and support departments
People Development
- Recruit, onboard, mentor, and retain high-performing PCU leaders and nurses
- Support shared governance, professional development, and succession planning
- Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-trust work environment
Finance & Growth
- Manage operating and capital budgets with strong fiscal stewardship
- Identify performance improvement opportunities that enhance quality and efficiency
- Support organizational growth initiatives and service line development
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute-care PCU leadership experience
- BSN required (MSN preferred)
- Active RN license (Texas or Compact State)
- BLS and ACLS required
- Strong experience in high-acuity, fast-paced hospital environments
