Position Overview

The Nurse Manager provides 24-hour accountability for departmental operations, quality outcomes, and staff performance. This leader connects organizational strategy to frontline patient care while driving operational excellence and team engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

• Align departmental goals with nursing and organizational strategy
• Lead change initiatives and evaluate outcomes
• Promote shared governance and evidence-based practice
• Partner with interdisciplinary leaders
• Oversee emergency preparedness planning

Team & Talent Management

• Evaluate staffing based on census and acuity
• Lead hiring through behavioral-based interviewing
• Coach, mentor, and develop staff
• Drive retention and staff engagement
• Ensure orientation, education, and competency compliance
• Manage performance and progressive discipline

Financial Management

• Develop and manage operational and capital budgets
• Monitor FTE utilization and productivity
• Analyze financial variances
• Forecast expenses and revenue

Quality & Compliance

• Lead performance improvement initiatives
• Monitor patient safety events and regulatory readiness
• Maintain compliance with NY State Nurse Practice Act
• Drive service excellence and patient satisfaction

Technology & Operations

• Utilize data and information systems to drive performance
• Support operational workflow efficiency

Qualifications

• Current New York State RN license
• BSN required
• BLS (AHA) required
• ACLS preferred (required if department mandates)
• Specialty certification or CNML preferred (required within 3 years)
• Prior leadership experience preferred
